PROTEST THE HERO Sign With VAGRANT RECORDS
January 22, 2006Vagrant Records has announced the signing of PROTEST THE HERO, a radical five-piece band from Whitby, Ontario. The band's debut U.S. effort, "Kezia" (keh-zai-yah),will be released on April 4 and will be supported by a short U.S. run with THE FALL OF TROY beginning on February 7, followed by a six-week trek with THE BLED starting February 24 in Seattle, WA.
PROTEST THE HERO is Rody Walker (lead vocals),Tim Millar (guitar, vocals),Luke Hoskin (lead guitars, vocals, piano),Moe Carlson (drums),and Arif Mirabdolbaghi (bass guitar, vocals). The band has been together for five years and each member is 19 years old.
With a musical style that is said to be "in the vein of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and SYSTEM OF A DOWN," PROTEST THE HERO have already developed a loyal following for their intelligent, politically and socially aware songs and technically intricate musicianship. PROTEST THE HERO have spent weekends and summers touring extensively in Canada, including stints on the Vans Warped Tour, tours with SUM 41 and DEATH BY STEREO as well as dates with ALEXISONFIRE, BAD RELIGION, ANTI-FLAG and others. The band have previously released a vinyl seven-inch entitled "Search For The Truth" in 2001 and an EP, "A Calculated Use of Sound", in 2003. "Kezia" is PROTEST THE HERO's first full-length release.
Almost two years in the making, "Kezia" is a "situational requiem," similar to a concept album in that it tells a story. It is an elegy of a young woman's (Kezia's) execution, chronicled from the perspective of three characters. Each character is designated a section containing three songs, with a single retrospective finale concluding the album. The three characters represent an aspect of the band-members themselves, creating a deeply personal album.
